This isn't really a question, but mr mac had a heart attack yesterday. This is his 2nd in 3 years - the first one being after he got a kidney transplant. He's already on lots of medication for his heart and his kidney, and they're now very limited in what else they can give him in case it damages his kidney. Like I said, it's not a question, I'm just sitting here on my own and felt the need to talk.

After his last heart attack, yes. He has ischaemic heart disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

OK, so we are looking at a heart transplant and I would guess that that has been considered but presumably your husband is not fit enough.

I'm at home. He's doing ok, the doctors just told him it was a heart attack about half an hour ago and he called me. He sounds a little down and emotional, but I can't get to see him till 3.

Sqad, no one has mentioned anything about a transplant to him - is it that serious?

He's 53. He had kidney failure in his early 20s and his health has never been great since then, but he's still been able to work and everything. He just feels rubbish a lot and tires out very easily.

karen...I do not know how serious your husband is, only what you have told me:

Kidney transplant, recurrent heart attacks and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He is already taking lots of medication and it is a matter of whether or not he is responding to that medication. You must realise that my suggestion was a last resort, based on the assumption that his heart and kidneys were not responding to medication.

Perhaps I should have steered clear of his treatment.

Sorry sqad - I didn't mean anything, I was just a bit shocked that it could be as serious as that. Obviously you don't know anything about the situation other than what I've said, but I never considered that a transplant could be a necessity.

I don't know if they'll be around at visiting time - they weren't yesterday. They're going to speak to his renal consultant before they decide what to do next.
