I had a tooth out last Tuesday, top back, it still hurts like the tooth is still there, I went back to the dentist
thursday and he flushed it out and put in a dressing, this did not help??? anyone else ever had this happen?
Thanks in advance
Have you taken anything for the pain? e.g. aspirin or something? If the discomfort is still there after another week, go and see your dentist again .... maybe there's an infection in the cavity. I had a wisdom tooth taken out last September, it was quite uncomfortable for a couple of weeks.
thank you, I will see dentist again soon if it carries on.
Im on painkillers for backache which are strong and they are not that effective, also
have used ibrufen
Try rinsing your mouth out with salted water near the site of the extraction. Not the most pleasant thing to do, but it is supposed to help with healing. Like chokkie, when I had a large tooth out, it was at least a week before I could eat in comfort, lived on soup and yoghurt. My neighbour got an infection after an extraction and it was so bad she couldn't sleep, so I think you will know if that happens to you. Good luck.
thanks, I did the salty water rinse yuk, Im living on yoghurt at the moment, its has eased a bit and am at dentist Monday so will tell him (saw a different dentist for extraction as mine were busy) If it doesn't get better so I can eat properly, I will go back sooner for antibiotics if it is that, thanks for advice
Long story but had tooth out 2weeks ago -was due out but had developed abscess. It was agonising so if you can sleep at night and arent climbing the walls at least its not that BUT could develop so maybe a good idea to see your dentist sooner to see if you need antibiotics.
I was trying to take the tooth out myself before i got an emergency appointment -aaaaa the relief !!
I swilled with warm salty water as well but i'd definitely recommend a swift visit to your dentist.
have you any facial swelling?i had an abscessed tooth taken out 2 years ago and a week later i was in more pain then ever and very swollen.turned out that i had a secondary infection which spread to my jaw bone so if it dosnt improve go back to get it checked. good luck.
Hi Thanks for all the advice, Redhelen, I will try the strepsils, good idea thanks, and Dris, can't get an appointment until Monday but our local hospital dental wing will see anyone on a Sat or Sun Morning. And Queen, my face is not swollen so not abcess so thanks for all advice I will act on it.
Probably too late now, but you must always keep the socket wet and avoid getting rid of the blood clot which forms inside it, this can result in "dry socket" which is agonising. Hope you are feeling better soon
Thanks bluemukka, I heard about dry socket, when I went back 2 days later Dentist flushed it out with something (horrible tasting) and it still hurt after that.
I have an appointment with dentist Monday, the pain is easing now but still on painkillers.
Poor soul :( Bet you feel miserable.
I looked like a hamster with the abscess so guess thats not what you have-glad you have back up over the weekend just in case tho.
