I know of many bodybuilders and fitness fanatics that eat tuna by the boatload me included. I believe the scare involves the ingestion of mercury via the tuna and other fish. Read here.

Pregnant women have been warned about eating tinned tuna so there must be something in it. So long as you eat it occasionally I don't see the problem.
Problem is that of the pollutant, mercury, in the fish and there will be guidelines somewhere to be found on the Internet as to how much can be safely taken.

2-3 cans of tuna a week is perfectly safe.

Go easy in the case of young children and pregnant women.
one guideline suggests one 6oz tin per week for those weighing less than 8 stones, 2 per week for the rest of us.
Could the danger lie in the amount of added salt in the tinned variety?
