This earache is sooooo annoying . . . . . .

It's been going on in both ears for a couple of weeks, sinc eI went sailing and felll in the broads. Both ears are bad all of the time but something it jsut feels weird and other times like now, my right ear is really bad.

I went to the doctors and it's really inflammed, he couldn't even get the magnifying glass thigny in my ear enough to see properly, but ti's really red and swollen and the worst earache i've ever had. But because it isn't technically earache, and it's to do with my ear being swollen, it hurts when ever I move it which means; sneezing, eating, drinking, coughing, talking and yawning is painful!

Wow this has been going on for about 3 weeks, on and off in both ears . . . . . but this is the worst, before they either felt wierd or like normal earache.
Molly my (R) ear drum has burst 3 times now and its excruitiatingly painful until it bursts and then theres the relief and the blood (lol)..Even my GP who is a man and has no concept of real pain said it was the most painful thing which he had endured.Relax tho as mine werent infections -it was scuba diving, and a plain journey after an infection. It has left me with partial deafness though :(
Twice abroad though which wasnt handy:(
You have otitis externia (sp?) which is very sore but I am guessing your GP is trying to get the inflamaetion down to see if its otitis media which would requite anibiotics.Bet you'll feel better tomorrow -wouldnt be surpirised if the water caused it -my daughter had to get the GP out of hours because of same thing after holiday in Cyprus,.
^^ Should have went to Spellcheckers lol
Sorry molly I really do hope this will soon clear up for you, there is nothing worse than earache ( perhaps toohache)
Yeah I would agree I had an abscess a couple months back and was climbing the wall-same intolerable pain
Molly....don´t dribble on:

Dris is spot on............dont take Paracetamol take Ibuprofen.

Your doctor knows what he is doing.
molly....just Google......"Tropical Ear".........then just be patient.

He never told me to take any painkillers, or which one's to take . . . . I think he asked if i'd been takig anything and i said paracetamol didn't work and he just said 'ok'
molly...I told you in a previous thread which painkillers to take and I have also reiterated that point on this thread.

Molly, just a point......if the ear canal is swollen, the drops are useless as they will not be able to enter the canal. If there is no improvement today then it may well be advisable to nip into A&E as a dressing soaked in steroid/antibiotics may be inserted as a wick and left in for one to two days. The ENT house surgeon on duty could do this easily for you.

Well I must have a useless doctor then. Did you, sorry, i'll try brufen then.

And it's about the same, and i've had three doses of the stuff so far. I was looking for something to have for breakfast, there's no bananas, biscuits I can dip in tea or nutrigrain bars left . . . I made a porridge concoction out of crushed oatibix and milk.
are you better today molly ?
Doc's not necessarily useless molly, just might not be an Ear man. Round here the majority of ear care and the training for same is done by the practice nurses, they are generally very up to day. Going to A&E as sqad suggests, or minor injuries if you have one, would be a good idea.
In Hamlet didn't someone get poisoned by having toxins dripped into their ear while they slept? That girl who had eyes on the lad you had eyes on couldn't have administered something nasty, Molly?
By Jove, sandyRoe, I think you've got it!
no sandy, dont start with the toxins please. lol
Can reading about an earache initiate a headache?
oh yes, trust me it can. lol
No but having earche like I have now can cause irritants to be more irritating its certainly not a loling matter.
Molly-Sqad has given you excellent advice. It must be extremely painful -it wont kill you to try take fluids only for a few days.Although soreness in swallowing inevitably goes hand in hand with swollen glands due to an ear infection it might be worth keeping a check on your throat as I have developed a strep throat when I had a bad ear infection.
So in fairness to Molly she might be in agony and it does help to come on here just to ask about it or just to post in general to keep your mind off it.
My glands are like tennis balls now-well they feel it but the hot toddy is going down OK so far:)
BTW -I would same the same to anyone who was obviously worried and needing a bit of reassurance
Question Author
It's still bad but i think the drops are starting to work . . . .
