I've noticed I've got a newish light birthmark on the top of my back. I've had it for a couple of months and it itches quite a bit.

There's no dark spots or anything in it - it's quite faint to be honest.

I've mentioned it to a few people who have said that they wouldn't be worried. Shall I go to the doc? Could it be something to worry about or not?

Thanks

<<<t could very well be nasty, get it checked out, ASAP. <<<<

..<<<<sorry, just talking sense.<<<<

Naz........not in my opinion you aren´t.
I don't care for your opinion.

Whatever, MissC ... put some Nivea on it. it'll 'possibly' not be something nasty, sorry for scaremongering.
Naz....LOL
Sorry, I was a bit harsh there ... As a 'survivor' I'm biased, lol.
.. hence I have a healthy mistrust for anything that appears where once there was nothing. :-))
naz....no big deal..............you said your "piece" and I would defend your right to say it with my life (well almost ;-))
maybe it's a form of suntan - ie the skin producing melanin because something's irritating it. (Doesn't have to be sunshine.) I had that once - can't remember whether I found out what was producing it but it eventually faded. Sqad's view is no doubt better informed than mine.
My mum has a pigment patch on her forehead that started itching and flaking recently. I thought it was basal cell carcinoma which I wasn`t that bothered about as it`s not invasive. Her mother had the same thing on her nose and it was removed. If I had that, I would want it removed sooner rather than later so that it`s not too disfiguring. My ex boss donkeys years ago had a melanoma on his arm. I nagged him about it for about 18 months before he went to the doctors. He told me it was a mole but it was very clear that it wasn`t. It was like someone had stuck a piece of black chewing gum on his arm. He was very lucky because he had it for ages before he did anything about it.

Not true....it is bloody INVASIVE.....it is that, which kills

I think that you have mixed invasiveness with metastasis...........two completely different terms.BSC rarely metastasise but they are very invasive.
