Should I get this checked out?

I've noticed I've got a newish light birthmark on the top of my back. I've had it for a couple of months and it itches quite a bit.

There's no dark spots or anything in it - it's quite faint to be honest.

I've mentioned it to a few people who have said that they wouldn't be worried. Shall I go to the doc? Could it be something to worry about or not?

Thanks

I wouldn`t be worried but the fact that it itches would send me to the docs

Thanks. I'm a bit worried cause I have burnt my back badly in the past! I am very careful now and don't really go out in the sun.
If in doubt
check it out !!!
a visit to the doctors is needed if only for peace of mind !! x
Get it checked out , itl put your mind at rest x
No big deal..............itching in a pre-existing mole is a different "ball game", but itching in a new lesion is insignificant as an indication of malignant change in a melanoma.

Monitor the situation.

Thanks all :) I prob will go to the docs as I've got a couple of other things I could mention when I'm there. Glad none of you said it could be nasty x
I'd go to the Doctors...

One of my moles became itchy...My doctor actually took notes of the moles on my back for future reference.
ummmm....that is a completely different scenario..........Miss Commy, didn't have a mole to become itchy.
How strange, my wife has only just left to go to the clinic to have a light coloured mole on the thigh either just looked at, or they may remove it. I`ll keep you informed when she returns.
Oh yeah...not with it today :-(
i hope your wife will be ok carlton
best wishes to her x
It could be the Ebola Virus Missy, or maybe Lassa Fever ;-)

(Just kidding, listen to the doc on this)
My O/H has just phoned me to say everything is OK, thank the Lord.
good news carlton.
Anneasquith: She has just informed me that they froze it and it should disappear in about 4 weeks.
aren't birth marks called birth marks because you are born with them?
"Glad none of you said it could be nasty x "

It's just appeared, and it's itchy?

It could very well be nasty, get it checked out, ASAP.

..sorry, just talking sense.

It's new, I think. I got my husband to check and he thinks it's new. I will get it checked this week and I'll let you know what the doc says.

I'm sure they'll say it's fine as I know a woman who had a darkish mole with red blood vessels showing etc and doc said it was fine. She paid to see a specialist privately who removed the mole and confirmed it was a type of skin cancer (not the really nasty one).

I can't imagine a specialist removing part of a birthmark, I thought they could only cut out moles.

My next question then is . . . if the doc says it's ok, shall I pay to see someone privately to double check it??

Thanks

Carlton - forgot to say that's great news. You must both be very relieved!
yes bednobs, you are born with birthmarks, not quite sure what you call something similar which appears in later life.
