Ambulances are for emergencies, not self-inflicted drunken revellers. The police should have authority to hose these drunks down and leave them where they collapse.

OK, fair enough.
But the big problem with news (either on TV, papers, whatever) is it's not very newsworthy to report "a group of people went out, had a few drinks and came home quietly"
News pretty much only ever reports the handful of bad things that happen but never mentions the thousands of good things that happen each day.
I live near to Colchester which is a well known squadie town (no pun intended) and it's incredibly rare to see the sort of problems reported on the news even in a town such as Colchester.
It's the same surely with A&E. you will only ever see the bad cases in there, you'll never see the hundreds or thousands of people that go out for a few quiet drinks for every one person that ends up in A&E
