Drunken Revellers

Ambulances are for emergencies, not self-inflicted drunken revellers. The police should have authority to hose these drunks down and leave them where they collapse.

So people should go out and have a good time in case the have an accident?

Not everyone on a night out causes bother.

I am talking about the ones you see on the tellie that can't stand up and collapse in the gutter. I knew I would open a can of worms here, but does anyone agree ?

Sometimes though people don't realise how drunk they are until they hit the fresh air.

My OH is terrible...he seems sober in the pub but as soon as he goes outside he's a mess. That's why he likes me to come to the pub with him...so I can walk him home.

I agree with cazz, although in Spain (tourists apart) the drinking is a national pastime and although there are drunks in the streets at times, there seems to be fewer and their antics are different. For example, in my limited experience of Spain, I have never seen a drunken riot with police presence, vomiting, young women on the ground either unconscious or legs wide apart showing their knickers, or lack of them to the world. Casualty departments at the weekend are not filled with drunks, so I have been led to believe and hospital drunken violence seems to be a rarity.

UK does have a drinks problem.

ummmm....no it hasn´t always been this way.........Saturday fights would occur, guys got drunk, but not to the extent that we are seeing today, say compared to 20-30 years ago.

I beg to differ....I seen more fights as a child than I have as an adult...

And you ask Jack...she use to live across the road from our pub. The square where we lived you were guaranteed fighting at the weekend. Every Sunday night they'd be a fight in the Irish Centre.

ummmm....I have said that fights would occur on a Friday night particularly among the Irish, but this was usually contained by 3 or 4 coppers "banging them up" for the night, but what we are seeing now is what might be described as "uncontrolled drunken riots" involving both male and female participants.
I worked in Casualty for 6 months but NEVER experienced what is happening in depts all over the country at weekends now.

Well, Scandinavians could show the British a thing or two about how to get as hammered as possible on a night out. As others have said though, you don`t see the same level of behaviour (particularly amongst the females).

where I used to live the only aim in life for young girls was to get drunk as often as possible, get tattoo's and have babies.

Best way to sober up drunks is to shower them down - saves a lot of cop & NHS time. If you can't hold it dont drink it.

Cant stand them peeing in shop fronts & brick walls. They're a menace in public.

jaydah....big problem.......if they hosed them down and one hit/her head and died, there would be a public outcry......remember that Tomlinson fellow........Chakrabati would be on TV, the lefties would be up in the air complaining of police brutality........the services are in a catch 22 situation.

I can't see why the ambulance service can't charge people for their services when they are picking up drunks etc - the fire brigade charge for false alarms, after all! and there ought to be some sort of fining service for the idiots who ring 999 to ask what day it is, or they've lost their keys, or "my snowman's been stolen". The service know who's calling, generally, from their computers - just send 'em a bill for wasting emergency services' time.
