NLP is a rather different animal.....offers a quick fix....ok for things like phobias though
i have similar problems with my mother...she was very violent when i was a child and undermines me in every way. i have, however, now accepted i will never have the relationship i want with her and know where my insecurities come from. it has taken me until now (my mid-thirties) to accept this and i did a cbt course last year. six 2 hour sessions and cd's to take home to practise...and it is a pile of poo. i think it is the 'sticking plaster' of mental health services at the moment (along with dbt). i am also a psychiatric nurse trained in cbt/dbt and most people drop out or do not find it useful due to the level of committment etc. required. my suggestion would be to not speak to your mum; give your head a chance to sort itself out; and allow yourself the space and time to do so. although it isn't much comfort, wisdom does come with age and as you grow older your perspective on the matter will change. good luck hon x

Thanks lcg, violence was an issue till about 3years ago....my fear is it will be an issue again soon...with me throwing the punches!!!

I just feel like i need to do something because we wind up just talking again snd tyen its the same old same old. I do not want to apologize, i dont want to accept her apology either - cos then id need to kiss and make up....physically (!!!!) and also i keep falling in with her...just condones it really, arh, what a mess,

Thank guys, really it realllly means alot to come on here and have an unbiased opinion..l have great mates but AB is my own wee secret site hehe xx
your mum may want you out as she wants her own space ? Find some way of independance away from her and you'll both get on better.
CBT can be really effective and will almost certainly help you. I am wondering though which part of uk you are living in because there are some very good organisations around that may be able to help you to move on especially if u r a student. Womens aid for one - people think it is only about men and violence to women but it is there to support all women going through emotional abuse in any relationship as well.
Hope this is helpful x
Is there nothing like Marriage Guidance for mums and daughters? Somebody to sit and make you sort through stuff together - both of you would have to be willing to face up to what parts of the situation are of your own making and both of you will have to be willing to change.

Steer clear of CBT - my psychiatrist said that, as woofgang says, it can make the situation much, much worse.
tinkerbell23 is your mother going to read all this ? if she has managed to find out so much, surely she will know you use this site ? or are you hoping she will ?

My son attended cognitive therapy sessions and each time it took 1hr phone call to calm him down. It seems it is important to get the right therapist and he didnt. You have to understand where your patient is coming from. My son is an engineer so airy fairy tuff didnt work
