Anyone who has quit smoking
30 Answers
I'm only on day four today but I need some advice. I'm really really struggling. Day one was pretty easy and thought, oh brilliant, this is gona be a piece of p1ss. Until yesterday. I was an emotional wreck. I daren't speak to anybody I didn't need to speak to because I knew if I did I would end up biting their head off and my bf popped round before he went out last night (I decided not to go to avoid temptation and starting any arguments) and I burst into tears. It's pathetic. And I'm only on day four! Did anyone else have this sort of problem and so quickly? How long did it last for?
I'm using patches and managing to stop myself eating instead of smoking by drinking probably a bit too much tea and chewing lots of sugar free gum. Any advice reallllly welcome!

Give youself a break .Dont think so much about it .If you keep on thinking about it .it will make it much more difficult .Now having gone so long.if you do think about it say to your self it been difficult and Im here I will not put myself through that again .By going on the fags and trying again you will know what to expect .So part of the difficult part is over .Days will go in to weeks weeks in to months and it gets easier .Im of the fags which I loved for a long time and even after 10 15 years I would have loved a fag .So while the need of a fag does not go away its get a lot lot easier For get the patches it only someone making money out of your attempt . Just go for it no if and certainly no buts about it Good luck
Hi milly143, good news and better news. The madness will pass after a few days, that's the good news. The better is that you're going to have so much extra cash to spend that you'll wonder why you persisted in setting fire to it for all the time you smoked.
My wife stopped after a short stay in hospital years ago and we had a holiday in Canada on the savings. I gave up about seven years ago and still can't get over how much spare cash I have from week to week.
Oh, and you'll soon feel healthier too.
The Nicorette inhalator helped me when it got tough but it was only for a few days.
Sorry it's a bit of a ramble but stick at it and GOOD LUCK!

Milly, keep it up, it will all pass. Sadly I haven't given up completely, but often find myself in situations where I can't/don't smoke for a week or so. I sometimes use patches, but also use Kalms - I just take one in the morning, then maybe one in the afternoon and before bed. I used to think they weren't doing any good, but I am much better having had one. Also found Ricola Swiss Herb Drops (sugar free) in chemists which are good to suck on, not sickly (I can't eat sweets as a rule) and don't leave mouth feeling all furred up. Having said all that, I'm now thinking that I should follow your lead and my own advice! Good luck.
Markrae, £75.00 15 years ago, he saw you coming for sure!!!! I went to highly qualified hypnotherapist 6 years ago and only paid £30.00. A great experience and really worked!!
Just stick to your guns, its not easy but worth the struggle, just don't become complacent as it gets easier. NEVER HAVE A CIGARETTE NO MATTER HOW OR WHY. you can do it! A hypnotist will be well worth a visit. but don't pay silly money like Mark did.

Thanks for all the advice so far.
I do know one person who paid about £90 for a hypnotist and it worked for her but I was always unsure about parting with that amount of money being the cynic that I am. On that note, I will also say I never bought my own cigs, maybe a couple of packs a month so I won't really notice the change in funds, although someone else should :o)
An inhilator might be a good idea, just for the habit bit. I just didn't want to look stupid but I could keep it my little secret. lol.
Thanks again for the advice so far.

I thought i was going to die the first 3 days then it seemed to get easier. Whenever I felt I needed to smoke (and there was no way I was going to live through those 3 days again) I'd go and brush my teeth. This gave me something to do with my hands, my mouth was getting attention and I was left with a fresh taste that I didn't want to spoil with tobacco. Use a soft brush and mild toothpaste if not you'll ruin the enamel with all the brushing. Whenever the urge comes, remember it will pass so just get up and do something to take your mind off it. Go out for walks and breathe in some lovely fresh air to get rid of all those horrible toxins lurking in your body.
Keep at it chick!
It's hard work, im still struggling nearly 3 weeks later, but im still hanging in there- just about.
Now the only thing stopping me going back to fags is the fact that this 3 weeks of hell would all have been for nowt if i go back.
Have you thought of attending a no smoking clinic? They are great and seem to be helping me.

well I feel for you, but i crumbled and are regretfully started back on the evil stuff after quitting (taking a break really, as i didn't quit) for seven months.
However during that time I did exercises to burn up the frustration part of it and drink loads of water. It didn't help in the long run (my bad) four days is bloody good stuff, make it to the eighth day... distract yourself and I'm sure you can do it. Good Luck.
