Cider vinegar
20 Answers
My cholestrol levels are very high - it is a family trait. I don't want to go on statins and am trying to reduce my levels through diet. So I am eating porrige and trying cider vinegar in honey and water. But it is revolting. Are there any ways to make it more palatable? Thanks for your help.

Hi Quizbag, I took cider vinegar with honey in warm water for a few years in order to avoid arthritis but found that the cider vinegar tablets are much easier and quicker to take. It also saves all that messing about with spoons and containers.

Incidentally, I'm not sure if CV will affect the Cholesterol level but it will help with Arthritis if you have it.

I've not heard of cider vinegar helping with cholesterol - I'll give it a try! I've come off my statin because of muscle aches, so I'm expecting a rocket from the nurse when I see her on Monday.... my attempts to control with diet may or may not be working. I am eating a lot of veg and oily fish.
I used CV years back for joint pain and it did work - I'll get some tablets next week, thanks for the tip.

thanks mercia, I found this endorsement too http://www.buzzle.com...-and-cholesterol.html
boxtops...c´mon...you are a Health Worker....in the NHS and you are going to try Cicer Vinegar to lower your cholesterol...........I dont believe it.
quizbag......you say you have a very high cholesterol, a positive family history of high cholesterol, I bet there is a family history of heart disease or strokes, I feel that you are under the age of 65years old..........and you are taking CIDER VINEGAR.
It makes one weep at times.

Hi Sqad - yes absolutely, but it's the statins which have been causing me the muscle pains in my arms, keeping me away, inhibiting movement - etc. I stopped taking them a month ago, and very slowly life is returning to normal. I'm trying it with diet instead. I know it works well for some hellywelly, don't you stop taking them - but I had statins for two years before this side-effects manifested (as you know, sqad). I'm seeing the practice nurse on Monday anyway with the blood sugar thingy, so I will talk with her about this then. I'll try anything to avoid the muscle pain coming back.
I certainly wouldn't have tried to medicate myself without seeking advice, not for something as important as this. There is no familial cholesterol problems of which I'm aware.

Thanks everyone. I have been on statins before and like boxtops had severe muscle pains so came off them. Sqad - my family has no history of strokes and the only one with heart problems was a very heavy smoker which I am not, oh and by the way, I am well over 65 so am just taking sensible precautions.
