I filled in a questionnaire that took quite a while on line. At the end there was a print out, which I thought sounded very favorable. Then it said there were no matches for me. I could not believe I had wasted my time.

Unfortunately no matches available for you athe moment :(
I once filled in a form on a obviously dodgy site using a disposable e-mail.
I put Iwas 85 , one-legged bankrupt with a criminal record....
They gave me 20+ matches of young ladies in the area :)

finding someone can be hard for people for many reasons, all your friends have partners and their friends to , so no introductions that way , you maybe a working parent so getting out the home can be difficult , to name just possible reasons for looking online.
there are both plus's and minus's of internet dating as there are on any form of finding someone special to spend your time with.
However any site wanting to charge for introductions , membership or the ability to communicate with other members has to double and tripple checked .
I would advice checking out the free sites if you are to go the internet dating way.
Also please rememeber many people will tend to post an old photograph so they will look better than they do in person , also some married partners will try to use these sites to cheat on their partners. And be sure that you meet in a public place if you do find a possible match , as well as making sure someone knows where you will be and who with , better to be safe than sorry.
good look with your search

I found plentyoffish really good. Unfortunately i was sucked in by the advert for E Harmony; impressed by the whole questionnaire/matching-up personality process. Basically I thought - why keep hunting through millions of undesirables when E Harmony filters them for you. Sadly, after sitting through reams of boring questionnaires and paying a lump sum I found they sent me the same undesirables that were on the free site!! Lesson learned - don't pay for things you can get for free!!! Sorry this advise has come too late for you, may be your number one is just completing the questionnaires :-)
