On the whole I hated them.

The best was BBC (Beans, Bangers & Chips) & Gypsy Tart
Worst was liver and lumpy mash.

Haven't a clue what they would have cost in the mid 70's.

3) Honestly it all looked/tasted the same.
4) Not a penny, I took my own sandwiches :c)

Good morning mazie

I had them

I cannot remember hating any part of them
It was 40 years ago, i cannot remember how much they cost

Eww.. I'd forgotten about Semolina and Tapioca..hated them both
Loved them and hated them, depending on what it was. My mum couldn't and wouldn't cook, but produced some fantastic m and s ready meals for us! I loved toad in the hole at school, as well as cheesy baked potatoes, lasagne, sausage rolls (the offender that led me away from vegetarianism) and hotpot. Donuts were always fresh and so were the eccles cakes.

Sometimes my meals were free, and the other times, I was given much, much more than needed - £1.10, which I spent on a pack of 10 cigarettes and a sausage roll (don't tell my mum!)

Morning excelsior
1. I didn't have them much at primary school but I loved them. High school was just like a normal cafe :-)

2. The jam roly poly and custard at primary was amazing! At high school I would say, everything. I even ate curry there and I hate curry!

3. Nothing really. One "mate" used to get a tuna and cucumber roll everyday and it was minging. The thought of her eating it is actually giving me the boak!

4. I can't remember at primary and high school just depended on what you were having, like a normal cafe. When I got to the end of 6th year, it transpired that I should have had free school dinner since primary school and no ones told us....
1 Bit of both here as well.
2. They used to do gypsy tart with a blob of cream on top. That was nice.
3. The chips were gross. They were never crispy and they were very greasy with little specks of black stuff on them. I'm they over used the oil.
4. Don't think my parents paid for my junior school dinners which I refer to above. 11+ school, I used to take a packed lunch.
I loved my school dinners at both schools, junior and secondary.
My favourite was cheese and carrot pie.
I can remember it being five shillings a week. I always took two half crowns, thats how i remember how much it was, a shilling a day.

Thinking about it Georgiesmum, I'm sure now mine were 5/- a week. I loved the cheese pie we had as well.

Tut, Tut AlwaysConfused ;o)
1) Primary school loved them, Secondary not so much
2) P - Macaroni Cheese - Secondary Chicken Kiev balls with chips and curry sauce
3) P - Fish Fingers S- Every Friday was fish and chips
4) Primary don't know S- about £1-2 a day
1. Hate
2. Nothing
3. Butter beans, lumpy grey mash, watery custard
4. Can't remember. Probably 3 Groats.
Loved them
Roast dinner/ chocolate 'concrete' and custard
Always a choice of 3 mains so avoided stuff I didn't like, eg; sardines
20p a day
1. Tolerated
2. Fish fingers and chips
3. Lumpy mashed spuds
4. 25p I think

I remember getting a brown perforated ticket thingy with the days of the week on them.
I hated the mashed spud with little weird hard lumps in them, they actually made me heave. Fried parsnips. :0(

Puddings were ok.
Forgot about the semolina and tapioca too, what was with the dollop of jam in the middle? Didn't make it any more appealing!

Pink custard to go with the pink iced sponge? Weird.
The lumps in the mash were weird though, like butter beans .....I'm feeling sick remembering it.
for 3 groats i would of expected a la carte
