Dumping by txt
27 Answers
Not sure if this has been brought up on B&S in the past, but what is it with this dumping someone by txt this days.
It seems to be the younger element of society that are doing it tho i know a few older hands are starting to adopt this way of finishing a relationship now.
Why are people choosing to adopt this way of ending a relationship?
Is it because they lack confidence, confrontation, or are cowards or heartless etc etc?
its a pathetic way of dealing with things if you ask me, not giving someone a chance to explain no matter what the circumstances were is silly really, i suspose people will say its an easy kop out to do it this way, it was an easy kop out to ring someone or write a letter years ago, but i don't recall it this bad, blame it on technology maybe.
Your responses would be appreciated, especially if you know or have been involved in ''dumping by txt''.
Thankyou

I really do think it is the easy option,no confrontation, no face to face talking, it is not often that easy to end a relationship but it should be done by being honest, I agree with you it is pathetic,if I have a problem with somebody over any type of matter I have to face it head on, deal with it and get on with life, take care, Ray

Well i got dumped when i was about 15 by my first "boyfriend" when he got back from Portugal. He then (obviously realising what HUGE mistake he had made) rang me up and asked me back out. Ater hearing him beg and say how sorry he was i took him back... but being the stubborn b"tch i am i then TEXT him a week or so later saying it was over.... was on a bit of a "girl power" high.
But yes, you're right it is a pathetic way of dealing with things. I'd be very surprised if any adults took this and i think its all the things you mentioned above (lack of confidence, cowardness etc).

I've done it by email but I had the moral high ground as she had cheated on me. I didn't have a phone and she had emailed me to say we should meet up to talk, I just told her I had nothing to talk about but didn't want to spoil our friendship as we had been mates before hand. I had found myself in the relationship unexpectedly so was rather relieved to be able to break it off without either of us really loosing face over it!
LOL @ Kaylz. That's horrible but it made me laugh!
For all those people who have been dumped by text, thn they should probably thank their lucky stars to no longer be in that relationship. Sure, breaking up with someone isn't a nice thing to do but to do it by text is just spineless and doesn't bode well for them sticking by you through thick and thin anyway.
I suppose it's marignally better than being left a post it note like Carey in Sex and the City.
When I was about 14/15, my friend's boyfriend approchaed her with a black bin liner and said "Sorry hon, you're binned" I think she cried for weeks at the humilation!

Personally, I would rather have a text saying its over and a brief explanation than to be totally ignored and not know where you stand, which seems to be the norm for me - men just disppear and I never hear from them again ! Or they change their mobile number lol.....but I do agree it is the cowards way out....better done from the heart and face to face with sincerity - its hurtful either way.
I agree that it's because people can't get up the guts to do it face to face but I don't understand how it would work?! If a boyfriend dumped me via a text message I'd definitely ring him and probably turn up at his demanding he give me a proper explaination and to give him some abuse about the cowardly way he'd gone about it! He'd end getting more grief off me than if he'd just said it face to face!
Cowards!! I could never break up with someone via text...i did tell someone i disnt want to see them again via text but we had only been on like 4 dates and he was STRANGE!!! I had the love of my life end our kinda r'ship thing by a text...kinda. It broke my heart - worse cuz it was not face to face - i cried for weeks!!!
