Guy Problem

Ive liked the same person for 3 months now... they told me that they would like me back eventually... and then they said soon... The other night he seemed liked he liked me sooo much then he said "just as friends for now" and he said its possible for that to change... how can i change that??? i would not like answers such as: give up on him, its hopeless, or hang out with him more....
