A womens place is above or below a man?

In my relationship (7years) I have always been the one who takes responsibility for keeping things running. I also sometimes feel that I wear the trousers in the relationship as he can be lazy and so I have to 'take charge'. However yesterday while having an argument with my husband he mentioned that a womens 'place' should always be below a man specialy if he is a nice bloke.

Now what can I do when he says that? How can I just be below him? Why because I am a women? Does anyone think this is right or am I making this worse then it is?

It's just that to me is so offensive. How can he tell me I should be below him and be a nice little wifey cooking and cleaning when he cant be a proper 'man' by bringing the money home and taking care of that side of things. I do the lot, the woman and the man roll. He hasent got a right to even think that.

I always thought a relationship was about a partnership? Ie , you both have your stregth and weaknesses but neither of you is better than the other.

I know there is never 100% equality in any relationship but I still don't beleive for having a p*ssy instead of a c*ock I should be under a man, especialy when he does nothing to be above me...

Yes it should be a partnership and I always try my best to keep it that way, we are both from a traditional portuguese background where women do everything and the man nothing. We are a young couple in our early twenties. And after the up bringing I had I never wanted to be like the mum used to be or his I wanted to share a life not be there to please my husband. The worse is he said he agreed with that and everything was fine even though I did the most. Only to tell me he things my place is below him 7 years later. It hurt and was very offensive.
