I tell a lie, I did get engaged once, but packed him in about a week later and never did get a ring!!
cazz......bloody hell.....................!!
I would have married my guy if the ring had been a brass washer, as it was it was acquired from a friend who was a jewellery rep, so probably it 'fell off' hid display board LOL I still adore it after all this time.
Why does it matter where the ring is bought, as long as they both like it? I never had an engagement ring at all for my first marriage, we had better things to spend the money on (like saving up for somewhere to live), and this time we went to a shop which has jewellery we both like, but certainly wasn't top end. I have no passion for expensive jewellety, I would be worried about wearing it and I don't think "how much you spend on the ring" has any bearing on the love in the relationship. If this couple don't have much money, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Lofty......give me your phone number and I will give you a ring. ;-)

Disagree cazz,a girl at work is getting married in november, doesnt want a engagement ring, she is getting a bespoke wedding ring with a diamond in the centre!
surely it makes sense not to spend too much money if youngsters are so fickle?

how much was your engagement ring poodi?
I have to say that for no other reason than being snobby if someone was going to spend two grand on a ring for me I certainly wouldn't want it to come from Argos.
his display board *and I should have added I was meaning wedding ring. I never had an engagement ring, did get a lovely eternity ring on our silver wedding day though.
Prudie....LOL
Cazz, I don't expect anything from anybody. I have some lovely things Mr LL has bought me over the years, but nothing I have asked for or expected. To be honest I wore a trouser suit to get married in, had no photographer, nothing. I was just happy to be marrying someone who I was totally in love with. I hate weddings and I hate a lot of fuss. We have never celebrated anniversaries either.

As I said, I was a bargain!!
Are you more concerned, poodi, about the age of the girl, and whether getting engaged at 17 is too young? Perhaps they won't get married for ages yet. How old is the lad?
bizarre prudie, its still 18 carat gold, would you like it if it was bought off QVC then?
What I can't understand is how some youngsters get engaged without any intention of getting married. To me someone has to propose marriage before they are actually engaged. But then I am old!!
No cazz i wouldn't. I did say my reason, can't help it.

Dont know boxtops,i bit older say in his twenties
Lofty....we do not celebrate anniversaries either.

We got married in the morning and I nipped off to operate in the afternoon.
Honeymoon was 5years later when I had some spare cash.
My wedding ring went missing years ago and never has been replaced!!
well argos ring aside, I wish the happy couple my best.
I am retired now but I got engaged first when I was 16. Ended it and threw his ring in the boating lake .
