Father of the bride...

I'm getting married and neither of my parents will be attending, the only male relative I will have attending is my younger brother who I am not very close to and who isn't the most reliable!

Does anyone have any ideas on who can walk me down the aisle and who could possibly do a speech in lieu of the father of the bride speech?

Its a nightmare - no one to walk me down the aisle, no father of the bride speech, no father/daughter dance, the top table won't have my parents sat there and they'll be missing from the photos. Any suggestions on the situation and ways around it would be great :)

Thanks

You do realise that people here are going to ask why.............?
anyone can walk you down, even a female. Maybe a best mate. My friends best man was female.
Sorry to hear that - sounds quite sad. Do you have any 'pretend' uncles or good, male friends?
why?
It doesn't have to be a relative CAJ. Have you not got a male friend that will do it for you?

I think quite a few people on here know why already jackthehat as I've asked for advice on my family situation before
how about me? :-)
Do you have a good friend who could walk you down the aisle? Or some younger bridesmaids and page boys who could do so?

As for the speeches, it's your day, you can choose what speeches you have and by whom. On my wedding day, my mother did my father's speech (he was there, he was just too nervous). At the last minute my groom announced that he didn't think he could do a speech either and I had to grab the best man and tell him to announce me and not the groom. It was nearly the shortest marriage on record.

It is your (and your intended's day), you choose what you want. Best of luck and congratulations!
you learn something new everyday - i didn't realise you had been married BM (sorry CAJ for hijacking)
Jolly long time ago bednobs!!!!! We've been apart nearly 10 years!

(Sorry CAJ1)
but you are only little, how can that be?

Thats a good idea 4get, I was so busy thinking it should be a male that I didn't think of a female!

Most of my male friends that I would be close to are my fiance's best friends but I think one of them would do it sherrardk. No pretend uncles :)

ljdska, I was fostered when I was younger and haven't spoken to my parents in years. Recently tried contacting my mother and she doesn't want to know me and my father is still the man who enjoys his drink just as he did when I was younger putting blame on everyone else but himself.

Do I get them to do a speech on my behalf too Jan and would I then get them to sit at the top table and be in the photos too? Or do I just get them to walk me down the aisle and leave it at that?
what about your foster father?
completely up to you

Just seen the other answers!

Love the idea of walking down the aisle with the dog lol! And 4get, you're on :-)

My friend said I should walk down myself as I've got this far in my life alone and I can make it down the aisle but I like the idea of someone being there and sharing the moment. Think I will get some close friends to make speeches, thats a great idea.

No probs on the hijacking :-)

I got shipped about quite a bit 4get from one foster home to another so never got close to a foster father. I'm half thinking I should get my brother to do it but I'd just be worried he;d make an excuse at last minute and not turn up!
Bless. I'm sorry, I didn't realise. I would choose a best friend I think. My friend decided to walk up the aisle by herself, as she objected to being "given away." Do what feels right to you and all the very best.
I was a very young and virginal bride!!!!!! lol

CAJ I think it is up to you what you do. Because they give you away, they don't have to make a speech. Equally, you can have whatever speeches you want. What would you LIKE to do? Would you like to make a speech as well as your fiance?
