Online Dating websites

Are these websites really any good?

They all seem to claiming success rates and you can pick and choose, but are they all just full of people who want to get some physical action or are there genuine people on them?

Imho, if they were any good there wouldn't be so many lonely people on them. I reckon its a case of a fool and his money are soon parted. That's not to say there aren't some genuine people on them, but I would never be too sure

There are some genuine people on there - you just have to use your common sense, be careful how you word things, and be wary.

I met my partner on Dating Direct 4 years ago - we're still seeing each other & it's worked out fine. I did come across (not literally....) some dodgy folk on there before I met him though.

you can meet dodgy peopel in all walks of life, and as you would take care then, you do the same on dating sites

I tried it once quite a while back and met some complete idiots who were clearly only interested in one thing. But I also met a few really nice guys who were looking for a relationship, we just didn't happen to be compatable but that can be the case however you meet people.

Depends on which dating sites and what you expect from them.

Generally speaking:

the women are usually divorced, or been left by their partner or husband and for reasons almost all involving "chips on their shoulders" about men, cannot get a partner (or at least a partner that know s them) so go on the Dating Websites.


the men almost all are married and are looking for something different and more exciting than their wives.........sex.

for married women who have boring or disinterested husbands..elicit encounters.com

A good friend of mine met his wife on match.com. She was the first date he had. He`s completely normal and so is his wife. I have met quite a few colleagues who have met partners online. It`s like anything in life. You win some, you lose some. You can meet creeps anywhere.

"cannot get a partner....." - I dispute that sqad. I just wanted to 'spread my wings' (please - no comment....) and find someone out of my local area or usual social circle.

I met a man with a yacht and who I would most certainly have not met around here. It was not the yacht that appealed, although I have gone on to learn and love sailing, but what appealed was the fact that he would not know anyone I knew, and would not have heard local rumour or gossip.....

I asked this self same question some months ago, and the consensus was that Friends Reunited was the best one around. I too, think that most of them are a con, and if they did their job right they would not be in existance.

You could always try Speed Dating, as I have done that 4 times.

I reccomend "Direct Dating" although it does take a while and you do get time wasters. I was on it for a year getting messages from men uncomplementary about my figure (I'm slightly over weight). I was getting depressed thinking I would never find anyone who's not bothered with the shape of my body. Then out of the blue - I get a message from a man saying that he "loved my smile". We e-mailed, we chatted on phone, we met, we fall in love, We are now engaged and enjoyiong life together.
It does work. Go for it.

I think Friends Reunited have their own section for Dating, but it is not an actual dating site. "When the music stops" is not a youth club, or Saturday night thing, but is usually held on a Thurday night, and is worth a look. I have been 4 times now, but still have not found the right girl.

Do you think we could start a dating agency here?
