Women who get jealous of successful dieters
13 Answers
Has anyone noticed that a lot fat women never ever compliment another women who has successfully managed to loose weight and is now slim and healthy? They always come out with the same remarks such as "you're too thin" or "don't loose anymore weight"or "it makes you look older"
Why can't they just say well done?
My wife has noticed this ever since she lost weight and has managed to keep it off. The only compliments she gets are from other slim women.

So obviously I thin it must depend on the type of person you are anyway.
I think that this is more common in UK than in most other countries. Fat women would like ALL other women to be fat, so that they would not feel as bad about themselves. I'm a slim male and I've never been fat but I've noticed the same thing whenever I've given up smoking. The non-smokers will congratulate you but the smokers will come out with negative comments like 'it won't last'. Again, they would like everybody to be smokers so that they would feel less of a failure themselves.
I don't know your wife, but I am made-up for her. I hope she continues to be non-fat and that she (and you) enjoy her being that way for a long time.

I dont' think that's true in either case. When I lost weight people were full of compliments for me. The only person who told me to stop losing weight was my Dad and that was from concern. I hardly think he was jealous.
And I'm also in the process of giving up smoking. It's nearly 5 weeks now and again I can't think of anyone who has told me it 'won't last'. All of my smoking friends have been very supportive and not at all bitter.
Perhaps you just need to find better friends.

I too thought milly's comment was to the OP.
We are all different in how we respond to good things happening to other people-just human nature I suppose. I've lost some weight in the last 2 months-and most feedback has been positive. The one overweight lady was worried if I was 'ok'....so at least concerned...lol

I arrived at the conclusion that Milly was referring to me because she quoted me in her reply. I had no qualms about the first couple of paragraphs of her reply, but to add something personal about my (or the OP's) friends was, to quote Milly, 'rude'.
Also, MuchLove, how would you feel if I told you to get better friends?
Maybe I'm being a tad precious. It's just that I thought that Answerbank was for asking and answering things, not calling one's friends into question.

As an overweight person myself I have found most of my family and friends make pleasant comments to me if they think I have lost weight, and I will always congratulate people if they have managed to lose weight, so no, I don't think the British are less noticing and congratulationary (is this a real word?) than other countries. But I have to say that sometimes if the dieter is approaching middle age, it is often more flattering to have some fat on one's face, so as not to look haggard. Congratulations to your wife, and i hope that she is pleased with her weight loss, and can keep it off.
