A serious question...my OH has been getting ready to go out for the evening. He emerged from the bedroom cursing and swearing because he had tried on 4 pair of trousers before he found a pair to fit him!
He has put on a fair bit of weight but will never listen when I suggest we try to lose a bit of weight together. I am also in need of losing double what OH has so am more than willing to give it a go.
We have a family wedding in a few weeks time so if were going to fit into the outfits we purchased earlier in the year its urgent...
Tips and advice to get started and keep at it would be seriously welcome.

Eat less and healthier and get moving exercise wise, faddy diets aren't good for you, can be dangerous, aren't sustainable and you tend to pile the weight back on after.
Get lots of fruit and salad and vegetables in and lean meat and fish, grill rather than fry and cut down on carbs, avoid lots of bread, pasta, potato etc... and drink lots of water.
Maybe suggest some activities you can do together which can help fitness without being focussed on fitness. Go for walks, swimming, ice skating etc...
If he sees you doing it and he isn't being nagged about it he might fancy joining it more.

The BBC had an excellent (hour-long) documentary about what does, and doesn't work, when attempting to lose weight. It's no longer on iPlayer but you can view it here:

The NHS website also has loads of relevant information (including a 12-week weight loss plan):

Note also being overweight can lead to type 2 diabetes that can have a serious impact on your life such as amputation of limbs. In fact diabetes is a leading cause of amputation.
So losing weight is not just about "looking good" but reducing the chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
