Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

How spooky is that the 1st of Octoebr and the weather starts to really turn cold? Hope you have been enjoying that little Indian summer in September now it is time for jackets and warming food.

We could talk about soups and stews (and let's face it we probably will) but I thought a nice change would be stir fry recipes.

This is a wonderfully diverse meal where you can add pretty much anything you like and serve it with anything you like noddles or rice for a lighter dish or crusty bread or even potatoes for something a bit more filling.

Here is one that looks really tasty:

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Good on you Jan with the 1 pound loss. My personal opinion with all these gagets for this and that is that you use them for about 6 months and from there on in they just take up space. You can't beat a good soup pot. Mine is so old that it is like an old friend when I take it out for use which is almost evey week. The handles are taped on now with electrical tape but I would no more change it for a newer model than I would my hubby.
Well done jan I have been looking at these soup makers too but as xstitcher says they get used for awhile then put in cupboard . I bought an ice cream maker last year guess where that is. But it might be different with a soup maker but they are quite expensive for what they are .
I bought a rice maker and I don't know why!!! I've used it once.
Yes, I suppose you're both right. Will think about it a bit longer and maybe drop a few hints to my sister for Christmas!
I rather fancy a soup maker since I have a soup for most weekday lunches; but I don't think any are likely to do everything it needs to. Delay start so it is ready to serve as I walk in, do the frying or whatever first to seal things, maybe do the chopping / liquidising, add different things at the right point, then cook it all to perfection. Bit of a tall order.

Meanwhile I'm heading in the wrong direction again :-( And the weekend's not started yet.
OG the type of soup maker you want is called a wife :-)
Ah I saw some Russian ones available in that last ad.
:-)
Good Morning All,

My my we have been a quiet lot this past week. Have we been doing things we shouldn't be doing......I have.....AND.....got away with it I am ashamed to say. Last week I saw a large bag of crisps "homemade with balsamic vinegar and sea salt." They jumped into my shopping trolley and were eaten in hiding in one go. My shame is there now for all to know. You can imagine my stunned surprise when this morning I saw that I was down 2 lbs. I certainly don't deserve it and have been beating myself up since the crisps episode.
Please don't anybody congratulate me on my undeserved loss.
Down 2⅝ lbs
Oh and to lose weight, eat more crisps !
Wow well done OG and how I wish eating crisps was true....I can tell you that they were delicious....just like they were in the olden days mmmmmm
I might add that they were so full of fat that I was getting fatty fingerprints on the book I was reading. My veins and arteries are probably super clogged up now....
Morning all well I don't think it has caught up with me yet as I am still the same as I went to Coombe Abbey for girls after noon birthday tea out yesterday. By the time we had finished we felt like we had eaten a 3 course meal.
So I will have to be extra good this week. I love those crisps Xstitcher we have them here and I don't share them lol.
Well done on your loss and OG .
That's good that you have stayed the same Wendilla. Keep on being good and next week you will go down.
Weird thing is that not only have I been up and down this week (unusually I had a drop over the Tues/Wed 24 hours, it's usually a rise these days) but also I'm not sure this week was anything special. I guess I didn't get to go for a drink Saturday, which meant the high weekend total was not quite so high as normal: but that said I only usually indulge in a few bevvies on a fortnightly basis anyway. And no wine was opened as alternative. Nice to see to increases so far this week :-)
I'm away for a few days and will be back next week. Much to confess to already, oh dear.....
oh dear me too Maydup. Enjoy your break .
Oh dear indeed.

My unexpected drop is being eroded, two days up on the trot already. I suppose I was slightly over goal intake both days, but not excessively so.
Oh dear to me too. I haven't been doing very well recently, so I will promise to do a walk every day for a week. Now it's in black and white I'll have to do it.
