Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Ok so we had to get them in eventually, warming winter soups. Such a great way to have a filling meal with fewer calories.

Let's have your best recipes.

Plus the debate on whether it is OK to have some tasty bready item to go with or does this push the calories too high?

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Here is last months thread

Good name for them. I think we must adobt it.
I must have frightened them. Today they made out I'm down an unbelievable amount xx st 1.25 lbs ! Not seen a reading that low since February !
Good for you. I am still planning on coming on with my bean soup but my OH is having cataract operations at the moment (very close together) so our usual routine is gone and I'm not getting things done as I usually do.
I wish I knew about this thread, would definitely be involved .Can you do one for January - starting health from then!
Lozzy xstitcher and myself have been running this thread for over 2years . The Ed gives us a new monthly thread . You are very welcome to join us. We normally meet here on a Wednesday and discuss our losses and gains and with some ideas of recipes . Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday
Hearty Tuscan Bean Soup

1 onion, peeled and finely diced
2 medium carrots, peeled and finely diced
2 celery sticks finely diced
2 large ripe tomatoes chopped..or one can of tomatoes
75g (3 oz) cabbage shredded
1.2 litres chicken or veg. stock
400g mixed beans.....kidney, white green etc

Mix all together and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the cabbage and simmer for 2 min or until tender.

I like this as thick with veg as I can get it so you can use more than the above.

Since I can only get dried white navy beans I soak them overnight and then
simmer them alone for about an hour or so. You can do more than you need and freeze them.
Well done to one and all. If you lose any weight, especially at this time of year, then double well done. Be VERY proud of yourselves. I try, honestly I do, but... one day I'll have a racing snake figure !!
Thank you for your input Janbee yse it is a losing battle at times but we keep trying but maybe not hard enough but not very easy in this cold weather .
You have come to the right place Janbee. We all try and the support we get from one another is so appreciated. If the scales have gone the wrong way on Wed. we put ourselves on the naughty step to sit there for a week and ponder on our transgressions. Once we put somebody's mother on the naughty step for constantly giving her daughter things that she shouldn't have. lol
I think I'm about the same again this week. I have lost my way a little bit recently, but I have managed to get back on track and avoided gaining over all.
Phew!

My aim back in September was to lose a stone before Christmas. If I'm really good this week I should achieve half a stone and i'm thankful for that. Plenty of soups and stews but no party food before the big day!

Good Morning All, Down 200 grams. That is hardly worth the notice but never mind, down is down.
Like you Maydup I wanted to make space for the holiday treats...especially the turkey stuffing.
It's the first time I've read this thread. Gosh, you must have very sophisticated scales if you know you have lost or gained half a pound or 200gms. What sorts of scales do you have?
Good morning Maydup and Xstitcher it looks like we are all struggling to do the same but have managed to keep off the naughty step but not good enough .Will still persevere I think it is the soups at lunchtime that is saving me from gains less said about the other meals .
I just wanted to say that I wasn't being sarcastic earlier. I am genuinely interested in which scales you use. My scales are useless. They fluctuate on a daily basis by as much as four pounds.
tilly wait till OG comes on later he has thestate of the art ones . Gets my head in a spin lol. Hows then doggies doing . My kids ones are well settled now . One more than the other . I ve got my sons one for3 weeks from xmas as he is going Australia .He is no problem and loves it here .
Hi Tilly, My scales measure in kilos and grams so therefore I can see the small differences. For instance you might weigh 73.4 one Wed and 73.1 the following Wed. (I wish I did) and that would mean I had gone down 300 grams or roughly translated almost a pound. I don't live in the UK and don't know if you can get kilos and grams scales there. Our only man Old Geezer might know.
I might add Tilly that your scales sound like they are due for a shift out....something for Father Christmas??
Morning, wendi. Thank you.
My dogs are o.k.ish. My GSD has arthritis and struggles a bit but the staffie is still going strong.
Enjoy your Christmas visitor.
Thanks, xstitcher. I might have a look in the January sales.
