Starting a business - legal obligations
My partner is thinking of setting up his own business fixing PCs and laptops in the local area. I was just wondering if anybody knew a website or book which explains everything in a simple format which covers legal issues. We're trying to look into it together but neither of us really knows what we are doing and it seems a bit of a mountain to sift through!

My advice would be to make sure you have some sort of public liability insurance, in case your partner trips over a Ming vase in their house, or you get some customer who turns nasty and tries to sue you. Keep a note of everything you purchase to run the company as it is all tax deductable, and it might be best in the long run to pay for an accountant to take care of it all for you as it would save you money in the long run probably. Also try to avoid taking phone calls and then spending ages chatting about their computer problem before you see them, they are getting free advice then and a lot of people try and ring round and do that, make sure that you make an appointment with them after a brief exchange regarding their problem.
