it depends how much the minimum payment specified by the CC was.
Whatever was stated on the statement?
I would guess £2-3 or maybe they have a minimum of £5
I think my card is 3% or £5, whichever is the greatest amount

OK. I thought it might have been a percentage of the debt. I'll phone them in the morning and ask.
Mine was 5% of the balance but this was years ago.

Posts crossed there. A few hundred in the account should be more than enough to cover minimum payments 'til I get back.
The only advantage of setting up a DD for the minimum payment is that you never default. The payment will cover the interest charges and very little else. I have one in case of being hospitalised but I always make a larger payment on top. Paying just the minimum vastly increases the time it will take to pay off the debt.

I'm going away for 5 or 6 weeks later this month. I don't want to be accessing my accounts on dodgy internet cafe computers so thought to set these DDs up to pay the minimum and keep me from going into default.
I usually pay in full each month.
When you set up a DD you have three choices: the minimum amount, a fixed amount or the full amount.
Question Author
I'll opt for the minimum and keep things in the black 'til I get back.
Thank you all.
