Identity Theft , CIFAS and credit ratings
1 Answers
I was recently told by the Tax office that someone had tried to apply for tax credits using siome of my details. They recommended using CIFAS. From what i can see CIFAS will put a warning on your credit file ie " investigate further "
I haven't the best credit rating and wonder if having this on my credit file could actually count against me.
Any advice or similar experince?

You simply go to their website and fill in a form and pay a small annual fee. You in effect let them have a password and the idea is when you purchase goods that do a credit check with the credit reference agencies behing the scenres i,.e a loan request, a new mobile contract, mortgage etc. this will once registered be referred until they speak to you and you give over your correct password.
This is great and I use it, it means that a fraudster will not be able to take out loans etc. in your name where a credit check is required.
