My partner has just informed me that if we send our tax return back after Christmas but before Jan 31st, we will still be charged because the tax office has a higher workload at thet time. Can this be true? is it legal?

Not strictly true - the deadline with a paper return for not being charged is 31 October, I think.

If you do it online it's 31 january
