a mate of mine has just discovered that a 4 week pay month ( 3rd thurs in month to 3rd thurs in month) his wages are virtually identical. however when theres 5 weeks between the 3rd thurs in the month the extra weeks wages pushes him over £1000 and he seems to then "lose" around £50 more in tax and insurance. is this right.? thanks

I think he gets paId 12 times a year (13 times would apply if her were paid 4 weekly) since you say he's paid on the third thursday. Then his pay will vary depending on how many days that represents. The tax will just represent that difference and is quite correct, he will not have lost any allowances or anything.

I don't really understand what you are asking because under monthly pay the gross pay normally stays constant from one month to the next; but if you are saying the gross pay depends on whether there are 4 or 5 weeks covered by the pay period then it is nor surprising that his tax/NI goes up and down when his pay goes up and down
Depends on the difference in his pay between a 4 & 5 week month, but at the end of financial year it will balance out. His P60 will show that he has paid the correct amount of tax for gross annual pay and tax code.
Yes, it is right. He can easily check by referring to his P60.
He gets paid 13 times a month, so his tax and NI will vary, the same as his pay does.
