Bank Account Fraud
22 Answers
Ok peoples I need serious help. Bank account has recently been hacked. They have emptied current account and life savings. Reported this to banks fraud dept ony to be told that it was me and the case was closed with no reimbursment. Apparantly my online account was accessed from my ip address therefore it was me!!. Well it wasn't me. So whats happened? and how can I prove its not me. Someone has suggested that there is a log of the keys I have physically pressed somewhere jn the depths of the computer. If so how or who can do this for me. Some of the money has gone to pay a barclay card so surely it must be traceable but they arent interested. I think I need some help and guidance. ANY help appreciated.

Went to the police station but it was shut!!!! called 101 to report the case and was put through to action fraud but there was no answer for an hour. Then was told that they are shut because of the snow.
It says barclaycard p/ment on the statement. I'm the only person that knows my log in information, not written down ever. Amounts wise current account just shy of a thousand and savings tens of thousands. luckily I had just paid my mortgage off from the savings account otherwise that would be gone aswell.
The police will not be interested they say it is purely a bank matter.
I had £600 taken from my account by fraud. I phoned the police they would not even give me a crime number, just told me to contact the bank. Luckily I was able to prove it was not me. The fraud was in Northern Cyprus and I was able to prove I was in the UK and used the card in my local post office at the time of the fraud. The bank refunded the entire £600.

bednobs the bank fraud team closed the case whilst i was on the phone to them. they showed no interest in looking into this at all. I was trying to sort this out with the bank. the bank told me to report it to the police. The police told me to report it to my bank. From what I can understand it depends how your targeted. It could be identity theft or hacking into the computer. It seems to make a difference. They transferred money from my savings account to my current account before using the money.
fiction factory. I do have home network but I am the only person with my log on details. I never write these down.
I have reported this to action fraud on their website as I can't get an anawer on the phone. It would have been a lot easier to spoken to a person to explain in detail.
I'm a bit surprised the bank didn't get in touch with me with all the unusual movements. I thought they were meant to keep an eye on these things.

Presumably the bank did not query the transfer as whoever made the transaction seemed to have all the relevant login details and passwords. When you set up a new payee some banks send a text asking you to type in a one time pass code- I wonder if the bank is saying that check was also done here.
If you have a home network analysing the key strokes on your computer may bot prove anything as another device could have been used.
I'm wondering whether there is a little more to this story. Did the bank say why they were sure it was not fraud?
It may be best to wait now until you get a response from the bank to your query/complaint

also, what bank was it? I think ALL internet banks make you go through extra security when setting up new bill payments, so if someone had your log on details, PLUS the ability to intercept any one time passwords sent to you to set up new transactions and did it from your IP address then it has to be someone in your household (arent most ip addresses dynamic??)
I think the article on the news PP if it was the same as on Money Box) was actually about people who were duped into logging in and transferring money to a third party (e.g. when told by scammers it was a safe account as theirs was at risk from hackers). Wallis's case seems different to me based on the info we have
