Should I take it? I have been paying £100 a month in my current deal and have been offered another 12 month deal at £236 a month yet if I go onto the standard variable rate it will start at £136 a month but who knows what could happen? Any advice please?

I might add that I am in credit by about £200 at the moment which may explain why the starting price of the variable rate is so low.
It's a tough one, especially without knowing all the details, but at a 74% increase (based on the new £236 fixed over the new £136 variable rate) I don't think any of the "money saving experts" out there would be advising you to take a fix right now.
I am in more or less in the same position as you dave having just finished an 18 month deal. The advice on Martin Lewis's website was to stay on the variable for the time being and see which way the wind blows.
