Me and er indoors went to our nearest cop shop to hand in some money we had found , only to find it had shut .
So we went to the next nearest one , only to find - guess what- it had shut .
We had no idea that all the local cop shops had been closed .

Here in Suffolk, they all closed ages ago. There are now only three police stations in the entire county (Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft) that are open to the public, with those only opening 'office hours' from Monday to Saturday.

Haven't been to an actual Branch for years, last time was about 3 years ago when I sold a bike and they gave me cash, I hate that, pain in the proverbial! Anyway I have nothing against branches per se it's just a hassle to go there, which is more or less the same for everything. Why go and buy anything when you can probably get it cheaper on line and a nice man in a van brings it! The only down side to that is my JRs barking their kin heeds off N times a day!
There was two cops outside the second one we went to - i think they use the premises now to park police vehicles .
Anyway we handed in the cash to one of them who took our details in case no one claimed the cash , then we would be contacted .
That was donkeys ago - we haven't been contacted 'yet'
Do you suppose someone actually claimed the cash ( it wasn't a large amount ) :-)

I pay my window cleaner and gardener by bank transfer, they prefer it and so do I.
I rarely have cheques but I can pay them in with my mobile phone, or failing that, post them to the bank.
I rarely use cash but do keep a bit in my wallet. If I need to, I do a 'cashback' when I pay my butcher with my debit card or use an ATM.
I get a (an?) SMS from my bank if I make any sort of payment over £100 (I can set that at any level).
I'm old enough to remember when banks charged me if I issued a cheque, when there were no direct debits, when banking hours and very limited and didn't open on Saturdays. No ATMs. Having to make an appointment and take time off work to see the bank manager for just about anything.
Things have moved on a lot since then, thankfully. I don't really understand why some folk are so resistant to progress.

I refuse to have anything to do with online banking.
The reason?
Four years ago I signed up for online banking and within days four thousand pounds was taken from my account by criminals.
This was a few days before Christmas, so we had a miserable Christmas that year.
The bank eventually reimbursed me but it was months before I got the money back.
Since then, I have resisted all attempts to force me to go back to online banking.
I will never do so.

GG, I scan cheques back and front with my phone, look to see if the cheque has gone into our account then I shred said cheque, pretty easy really
