Extra £150 Been Added To My Energy Account

An extra £150 has been added to my energy current balance taking it from being £520 in credit to now showing as £670 in credit. I have already had the second £66 amount paid into bank account so it cannot be the winter fuel refund. This £150 has not come from my bank account. There is nothing under bills and payments that even shows this money going in. My last bill shows the correct end total for 1st November. So unless anyone has any ideas as to what it could be, it would appear that this money is not mine. I am not looking forward to trying to get it sorted out.

It's the Warm Homes Discount, which this year has gone up from £140 to £150. If you are on certain benefits such as Pension Credit you get it paid directly to your energy supplier; others have to apply for it.

I have already had the council tax refund money which was £150 quite a few months back now. I am not pension age and have never applied for the warm home discount. Is it something you do not need to register or apply for?

Are you in receipt of any benefits? If so, it will likely be to do with that.

Thank you for all your answers. There is nothing mentioned at all on their site/ my online account refering to the added £150 nor any email on the matter. I like Tora's answer and think I will leave things for a few more days and let them sort it out.

How much is your monthly Direct Debit? I noticed a couple of days ago my DD had been added to my account but doesn't come out of my bank account till Monday. It's very confusing because SSE have made me go to monthly DD instead of the quarterly DD which I much prefer. I think it's probably because SSE accounts are going completely over to OVO who now own them.

My monthly DD only £120 and no other amount has been paid from my bank account so its not a double payment or anything. I have checked who is eligible for the warm home discount and none applies to me so can't be that. Still in my 50's so not on pension credit or anything. Think it could be someone else's warm home discount money put into my account by mistake.

Very strange. The payments haven't come out of my bank account as yet either. It's so confusing. Much preferred paying the bill in full when it was due. No confusion there at all.

Have you tried ringing up customer care to see if they can explain it?

How do you heat your house? Gas or oil?. If oil then you will get an extra payment as well as the one for your power.

Andres - no oil just gas central heating and electricity so can't be that. I am with jno also - if this money is not mine it just a burden till gets sorted out properly. Heard enough horror stories about people who get millions accidentally deposited in their bank accounts and decide to spend it, then suffer consequences. Not for me. Just want this to be put right but got so much on plate at moment that it going to have to be when I have time.
