Is It Rude To Decline A Job Interview?

Sometimes I apply for jobs only to see if my applications are 'up to scratch'.  If I get shortlisted then I know I'm filling out a good application and really I'm not even interested in the role.  Does it matter if I decline?  Is it rude to?  I suppose I'm using these applications for my own gain, but I feel guilty.

no I don't think it's rude depends on how often you do it.

You may surprise yourself and get offered something better than your current roll. Besides, you don't gain unless you learn from it, do you.

Since you are applying for a job you dont want ( which is a lie) then saying "no interview I am already employed" is a lie which will come naturally to you

BUT - - - do NOT turn up to the interview and then say no....

come on Helen NHS - if you turn up to an interview and then say "no", they will write to your referees ( and whine)

of course companies dont write to your referees if you turn down a job!

Go to whole way and see where it leads you. There is nothing to lose and lots of experience to gain.

As an iterviewer of many years exprience I can advise that it is annoying, especially if you just don't turn up. But it does happen. It's a matter between you and your conscience.

I like the idea of reporting no-shows to their referees - LOL - it would never happen though.

An interview is a two way interaction to help the candidate determine that the job and company is right for them, as much as it is for the employer to see if the candidate would suitable for the job.

A job seeker may have several interviews lined up and be lucky enough to have several job offers.
