From the earliest days mankind has always sought to improve their life. The generation of wealth is key to this endeavour. Many attempts at various systems have been tried but they all come back to the inevitable conclusion that to maintain any standard of living someone has to generate wealth. It is also for this reason that communism and socialism can never work. So to answer your question, yes money does make the world go around.

Most people have very mixed ideas about money, some positive, but most negative. We get these ideas from our families, friends, society in general and even the government. Some of the negative ideas can be summed up in the phrases we use (and hear), time and time again, such as Money doesnt grow on trees, We could never afford anything like that, People from round here never make anything of themselves, Money cant buy you happiness, etc, etc.

These phrases perpetuate the belief that money is a bad thing, a difficult thing to acquire, a corrupting influence, the root of unhappiness and discord, and so on. As long as you let these thoughts fester in your mind, your predominant beliefs about money will remain negative, and you will find it difficult to become rich.

Being rich is not a bad thing. Money is not a bad thing. Look around you. Many of the good things in the world (apart from the natural world, obviously) are there as a result of money, or the proper use of money. Next time you hear anyone tell you something negative about money, ask him to go and live without it for six months, see how he gets on.

From now on, look on money as a positive thing. Look forward to earning money, making money, winning money, attracting money. And, since youre still at school, start a savings plan right now, even if its only a pound or two a week, and let it grow and grow. When youre as old as some of us on AB, youll be a very wealthy person indeed, and glad you did what most people never really get round to making a plan to get rich and sticking to it, come what may.

Good luck with the debate!

Most people need money to live. You work to earn money. You spend the money on consumer items which in turn pay the wages of the individuals who produce them. You also pass your money to the government and local authorities who employ people to provide services for you to consume. You need money to pay into pension funds & savings to ensure you have money to live on in your old age and the ability to fund a mortgage. This country needs money to pay for goods and products in which it is not self sufficient to fulfil the needs of its population. The exporting country uses the money to invest back in its factories, education facilities and other government provided services. All these transactions are circular in that eventually somewhere in the globe they are ploughed back into the monetary system to start off the chain all over again.
