If a payment is made by bank transfer from a Barclays account to an HSBC account, how many days does the payment take?

Does the payment always appear at a certain time of day, e.g. midnight, 2 a.m., 5 p.m., or can it appear at any time?

Itshoul take 3 working days and will usually appear at whatever the time the HSBC updat their transactions for that day (usually midnight/2am ish ). If it isn't in the account when you check it in the morning, it won;t appear later that day, you would have to check the following day.
This is how banks make money. A sum of money will disappear from your account but not show up in the receiving account for several days.........times that by thousands and thousands of transactions a day. Millions of pounds that no one is receiving intrest on.
They tell you it takes 3 or 4 or 5 days to clear, load of bunkum.

I paid my car tax at the post office late in the afternoon with a cheque made payable to Post Office Counters Ltd but when I checked my bank account online the next morning it had been taken from my account. That was less than 12 hours, but I'll bet the Post Office or whoever is receiving the funds don't get it for several days.
