Ignore previous question... does anyone know of a basic bank account, that doesn't require a credit check? Don't need overdraft, cheque book, debit card etc.

Try Co-operative.. ?? good basic account with cash card
Most of the banks offer such an account - but few publicise it.

There's a list here http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank _accounts.pdf

- your choice may be limited if you have a record of fraud or are an undischarged bankrupt
Nationwide (even if you are bankrupt); Co-op; Barclays. But make it clear what you want - sometimes they can get the wrong idea and do a credit check anyway.
Barclays do one of these! You can open an basic current account, where you have an atm card, no cheque book. This account also allows you to have direct debits and standing orders. The only downfall is that you can't do online banking. If you want to find out more, log on to their website @ www.barclays.co.uk. Hope this helps x
