getting my name on mortgage

how do i get my name put on spouses mortgage. he gave me 38,000 gift as down payment on home. his credit was better so we got home in his name with intent to change over to both our names after marriage which occurred one week later. now he says my name can't be added. is this true?

The mortgage company will have to agree - and if you have poor credit history then they would probably refuse.

There is no actual legal reason but the main charge holder, ie the lender would have to agree and as Ethel points out it is very unlikely that they would agree if your credit rating is poor.
