I bought an item on ebay, stupidly paid by cheque and never got the item, it has happened to a whole lot of other people with this seller and they have now disappeared.

I reported them to the ebay trust and safety team, but that appears to be it, money lost. Does anyone know if I can report it to the police or anything? I have their address as I sent them a cheque, and I also know which bank cashed the cheque, surely there is something else I can do? Everything on ebay just says refer it to them.

Any help appreciated!

Neither eBay nor the bank will be interested.

You can report him to the police and claim through the small claims' court.

Hi Fay
Thanks for your answer - do you know how I report it to the police? Is it something I can e-mail them about or something?
Sorry for being a bit slow, I have tried google searches but can't seem to find anything on it.
Thanks
ebay will not listen you might as well bang your head aganst a brick wall. if he or she is classed as a trader ??? i would contact my local tradings standard office.
You can report it to the police.

My brother in law did, and luckily because he had the address and back up from plenty of other buyers all that was needed was a copper to call on the seller. Everyone was either refunded or received their items.

The police officer my brother in law dealt with only worked on ebay cases, so it must be common!
How can she take the scammers to small claims court if they've disappeared? I shouldn't imagine for one minute that the police will go searching for them. I think its something you're going to have to learn a lesson from and then move on. Make a point of buying from sellers who have already earned good reputations on Ebay.
Because a cheque must be sent to an address and must be paid into a proper bank account.

This seller can be traced.

right some people have no idea what you need to do is take it to the police stashion with all tansactshions and recept and proof of purtish and go to them make a statment and they will look into it cant say for long tho and then go to your bank with the crime reference number and state you would like a endemadey payment im not sure if this is how you spell it but easy way to exsplain it to them its the one used on direct debits there is a cover with DD and checks where if you have in writing of return you can get a refund well a crime reference number is that proofeof payment return so what the bank will do is claim it back and with in 7 days you will have your money back and the person who has the bank will ither get it taken from there account or go over drawn.
as a reply to the police wont go searching for the crucks they will as its a unsolved crime they want to solve crimes and its class as fraude and deseptshion and its a prison centence for them when or if they get cort
