What will happen to all the people who have savings accounts (not shares or mortgages) in Northern Rock? Will they get any pay out, or will they lose money, or will nothing change except perhaps their savings rate ??

Apparently nothing will happen - the Chancellor said it was business as usual for account holders - it is the shareholders who will get stuffed. But would you want to leave your money where Darling & Brown can get their hands on it?
The shareholders were stuffed anyway. The business collapsed, remember. Just hope they don't think they might have a claim on the Government like that ridiculous situation that occurred over the re-nationalisation of Network Rail.
Many hard-working folk risk some of their savings buying a few shares, in the hope that they might get a better return than the usual meagre interest offered by savings accounts. Share values can go down as well as up and it's a risk they take. It's hard luck, but please don't regard all shareholders as greedy pigs.
