Not talking about people who stay on properly licensed/serviced sites – that’s the same as any other form of camping and is fine (although I sometimes wish they’d use the rear view mirror a bit more often and move over when they’ve accumulated a significant queue).
No – I mean the ones who ‘park wherever they can’. This seems all well and good in remote areas – park up, enjoy the solitude and move on the next day, leaving no trace behind. All good stuff.
But what about the ones I was seeing last night :
who parked in prime positions (using two spaces each of course)
ignored any/all prohibitions on overnighting
used the pub ‘facilities’ (one half of lager for the bloke seemed to entitle a whole family to have a wash and brush up)
and generally were a complete eyesore, adding nothing to the local economy (‘we never buy anything at the local shops – they’re all rip offs’) whilst enjoying everything that a delightful location offered (as long as it was free of course).
It winds me up when they "wild camp" in forest car parks, store food under the van and/or have barbecues and leave their nasty trash around. I take my dogs out always keep disposable gloves and bin bags in my car because sometimes I have to clean up the carpark before I can let them out of the car.....mind you its not just the camper van folk who leave mess so I shouldn't blame it all on them.
Dave....you really need to come over to Ireland.....we don't get het up about those little things.....well except the blasted leprechauns who are annoying me to death.
Mystic Maud had parked her camper over two spaces and most of the pavement...takes an age to pass one on a borheen.....but hey....what the hell.
Better the back of a camper than the lid of a coffin......relax lovely...xxxxxx
Ah - and I forgot - the latest trend is for them to have an annoying little petrol generator chained to the outside of the the truck - so they can watch their effing satellite TV - whilst we can hardly hear each other speak over our pints outside the pub for the noise.
And they have just driven off leaving a pile of rubbish beside the van....beginning to think along your lines, Dave.....
Ekkkkkk...and two lots of dog pooo....xx
