I enjoyed his programmes too. I didn't agree with everything he said but he was a good presenter.

It's very sad and I feel sorry for his family but what on earth was he thinking going off at a marching pace, in 36 degrees of heat in the middle of the day, on his own and with no mobile phone. I hope people don't start criticising the search parties and saying he should have been found earlier.

Possibly a health issue (resulting in a fall?) caused by the excessive heat. Maybe a health professional should have realised & countered the dangers.

Well he was using an umbrella to counter the sun, which is more than many people would do.

Unfortunately after being missing for several days,I am not surprised. Last night it was reported that he was seen on cctv heading to a more dangerous area.

Such very sad news...my heart goes out to his wife and children. He will be missed by them, and by those who have been helped by his medical and dietary advice over the years.

36C is 97F in old money. I wouldn't even be outdoors in that heat let alone hiking. It's noticeable there was no one else around in the CCTV shots.

It would have felt even hotter than that with the heat coming off the rocks as well.  There's a reason why people move slowly in really hot countries and don't expend any more energy than is necessary - because it can be fatal.  He was so close to help at the end as well.

Sad news .... he must have died from heat exhaustion, so preventable in hindsight.

I wonder how he died.  Poor man.
