My middle name is Alice, named after my mother's only sister. Mum was one of 13 children, with 11 brothers and one sister. Sadly one little brother died aged two. I agree its a lovely tradition to hand down family names. I have found that most parents these days prefer to give children modern popular names, but often find that the children also have a family middle name.

traditional*. I am away to check on Humphrey and Montagu!! I am kidding that isnt what they are named. Goodnight Daisy
yes. But this sometimes makes it tricky for descendants researching their family history, as they wonder 'Which Daisy Bloggs was that, the one born in 1992, or the one born in 1961 or the one born in 1938?' We've given new first or second names, but kept at least one older one, for a few generations, which makes things easier
I have two middle names after both my nan's. :-)
My christian name comes from the latter half of my fathers name,as my fathers name has two syllables.
My middle name comes from my Uncle's first name who died many years ago.
My first name is Andrew, which no-one calls me if i can help it!

My middle names are Norman - after my dad, and John after my godfather. I was teased all through school about my dad's name, and I never use it.

I vowed that if I had a son, he would not carry Andrew as a middle name - but we had a daughter, so no problem, she is Charlotte Mary, the Mary is after her mum.

My grandson is Jacob John, the John is after his paternal grandfather, and my second middle name, which i think is nice - I don;t think Jacob Andrew works.
My youngest daughter's middle name is Mary, which was both my husbands and mine grandma's first name. Yes it's a really old fashioned name but we both liked it and it suits her first name really well. And like you, I kinda like following this tradition.
My christian name is a first in my family,my brothers got family names as middle names and one of my daughters has a family name as her middle name,my son has his paternal grandfather's name as a middle name.
Yep, my middle name is my gran's name. If I ever go down the route of having a daughter which would mean at least three children by three different father (how chav) I would without a doubt call her Ellen as I was just so heartbroken when she died.
I am named after my mother's favourite fruit...
My real name is Bernard.

(quote from Nursey in Blackadder)

My first son's middle name is Iain after both his uncles who died - my brother and my husband's brother - we changed the spelling in case it was unlucky. My second sons middle name is Alistair after his grandad Alexander (alexander is the anglisised version of alistair). They both have their own first names - it was the same amongst by older brothers and sisters - they have their own first names but a family middle name - except for me,as no. 7 in the family, I got 2 "new" names! My husband has his 1st name as his mum's maiden name and his middle name is a family name. He had no wish to repeat this on his sons.
No I was named after Dorothy lamour, my dad's favourite actress
One of my middle names runs in hte family - and 2 of my sisters have it as well. Very....imaginative!!
Noooo!!.....my sister was named after mum...and my brother after dad
I was an afterthought......so was named after no-one ;-((
