Hi sea dog - when I was teaching we had to set homework, regardless of how relevant it was to what was being done in class. We even had to log it on a central computer system so that it could be checked that we had done it. A lot of it is pointless, busy-work. Homework (at primary level at least) is supposed to back up what is being done in school.
