We have pretty much finished the nursey for jnr when he/she arrives in 3/4 weeks but I am not sure how many toys a newborn should have?
I have about 4 soft toys, a high contrast book, a mobile above change mat and cot, a set of hand/feet rattles plus the bouncy chair and a play mat for tummy time with music/ lights etc.
Some people have bought gifts already such as dangly toys to hang on pram etc so have a couple of those too.
Would you suggest anything else? I see a lot of toys in the shops but wonder if a newborn really is too young to appreciate and understand them. A lot of our friends have said it gives them things to buy when baby arrives..
Thanks

Newborns don't play with toys so I'd leave it until he/she becomes more aware.

Newborns love washing machines :-)
lots of soft toys, mobile round the pram, cot, soft mat for laying on, new born can't play but love things that move, going on experience.
Exactly ummmm I always parked mine by the washing machine and never turn the tv down or whisper as you'll have to do that for ever, just let them sleep through normal noise - they are probably comforted by house sounds and your voices.
my son's first word was 'moo' because my hubby used to play with him using a teddy cow! different textures and colours will be the first thing your baby will focus on (except for you guys!) and interact with. but, newborn is a little early...i would leave it for a few months (maybe 4-5mths/). you have started collecting....only buy nice stuff you come across at a decent price every now and then, and your toy pile will grow naturally x
Your toy pile will grow naturally and gradually take over your house :-)
'toys' can come later when they ( baby ) develops, all a newborn baby requires is food/warmth/love, :)
My father died when I was twenty. My parents were social climbers and a little materialistic and image obsessed. It is funny if I dream about him it just involves spending time with him nothing else. Sometimes the things we give that are free we do not value but are, well to me, are priceless.
Much love,
Gavin
A gift pack of eco friendly washable nappies will be appreciated I'm sure.
sounds like you've got it all covered! you've got more than enough for a newborn. As ummmmm says - pretty sure the toys will take over the house! enjoy and good luck xxxxx
if people want to get presents, ask them for mothercare/toysrus/boots gift vouchers - when you have her/him home you will know better what you need
Some of the things you think are going to be great are a useless waste of money and somethings are worth triple their monetary value to you.
My best ever thing is the video monitor we have. One of the things i really loved before she was born was a pram wrap in the shape of a star. It was i think about £30. Well, she hates it, and wont wear it!
