Most of you know that my son's gf had a baby girl last year. She is now just over 9 months old and is showing no signs whatsoever of crawling, or even attempting to crawl. Even when put on her hands and knees she just stays there and doesnt seem to attempt to move in any direction.
I know im going by my own childrens ages but do you not think she should be at least attempting to crawl by now?
my son completely avoided crawling at all costs - never did it and went straight to walking at about 11/12 months so I wouldn't worry about it. All of them develop at different rates. As my mum said to me - I doubt very much you'll be having to carry her into school because she hasn't crawled or walked yet, so don't worry - she'll surprise you all soon ! x
My daughter never crawled, she shuffled backwards, looked over her shoulder and tacked to lay the mark, ie, her destination! Maybe because I was racing dinghies until I was 7 months pregnant had something to do with it!
Not all babies crawl before walking. I had four children who all did different things at different times (The boy never talked for two years, because his sisters interpreted and spoke for him!) Ditto the seven grandchildren. Unless you have other causes to worry, just sit back and let it happen or not as your granddaughter does what is right for her in her own good time. I envy you, Smowball. Such a lovely age when they learn so much and such fun to be with. Mine are 5 and upwards now and great fun but not the same innocence.(Especially when they are at uni!!)
My (now 32 year old) son never crawled. He rocked and moved forward with his feet and not until he was 11 months old. I was told that he was too interested in his surroundings and didn't want to miss out by crawling with his head down.
My little granddaughter didn't talk until she was nearly 3 and now........ !!!!!!
My second god daughter is a year and has only just started crawling. But she's not that interested. She crawls for a bit and then sits there. We reckon she'll stay like this until one day she'll just stand up and walk. She will stand up, and then she gets bored. She's quite happy amusing herself in the few inches around her. Her parents aren't worried since she responds in every other way.
