Prams?

I am nearly 6 months pregnant and have seen a really nice pram,pink and grey, because we do not know the sex untill the baby is born, can you get your pram after the baby is born,(I will get a car seat before.) as my friend thinks i should get it before, but I think you won't use it straight away any way so what would stop me? HELP!!!!

IMHO, buying a pram is quite an investment. Where as Im sure the pram you've seen is sooooo beautiful, do you intend to have more children af ter this junior is born??? is you do, you would have to bank on the odds of only having girls as I'm sure you wouldn't want to buy a pram every pregnancy. So, if it were me I'd go for a uni colour and one that didn't show up the mud and dirt as prams do get very mucky, even if they are only put in the car and used at the loval shopping centre.

Also, re car seat, you should get one before the baby is born otherwise you will have to rely on your other half going shopping without you and choosing one himself while you are in hosptial. Do you really want that? Or do you want to help choose it. A car seat should be right up there on the first things to buy before baby list and in my experience, I would go for a 0-4 one and not a hand held carry one. The 0-4 ones are more robust, more cost effective, more safe (according to US web site re child safety seats) and much better for baby's back. The carry ones can cause back probs as some people take them in the house from the car and leave the baby sleeping in them for a good majority of the day.....

That is just my humble opinion (I have 5 kids and have made some horrible mistakes with prams and car seats!!!!!)

Hope you are well, I agree with mimififi, first think about practicality. What are you mostly going to be using the pram for? do you get buses? have you got storage space? do the covers go in the washing machine, can you fold it and use the fold down mechanism with one hand, while you hold the baby in the other? Think of these first and then choose a lovely pattern & colour ( which is what we all want really) I bought a fantastic looking pram, only to find I was stranded at a bus stop, because I needed two strong hands to fold the pram, and no-one to hold the baby, I considered asking a stranger but then, you can't hand your child to a complete stranger nor ask them to give up enough time to fold a complicated pram. I got a taxi! Good Luck.

HI there, the Pram I have seen is the pramette a3 from mamas and papas it is very practical for what want from a pram its only the colour/range I am looking at. thanks foryour advice on the carseat to.

Some stores, will allow you to order & reserve a pram, but pick it up after birth (I did this with my first child (it was a navy/lilac thing) howver they also kept a navy/orange in case. But even though they were a department store, I think they were a local firm. Give it a try, you certainly won't need a pram for the first week.

Traditionally, it'salways been considered bad luck to have a new pram delivered toyour home before you have the baby.

Most decent baby/dept stores acknowledge this and will take a deposit and store for you until after the birth.

Remember your child will still be using the pushchair for some years. Although these multi function things seem a good idea they'll be too big and cumbersome for daily use in and out of a car or on and off public transport. Also where will you store it in your home?

Look at fairly simple umbrella fold ones, suitable for use from birth- like mamma and pappa's 'plicko' you'll certainly get your money's worth.
