I had my 12-week "dating" scan last Monday and although I thought I was 14 weeks and 3 days pregnant (scan was a bit late), from the measurements it told the sonographer that I was actually 15 weeks and 3 days - so am now due a week earlier than I thought! Either that or its a very big baby!
They won't be able to tell you the sex or anything as its too early to tell - if you want to know, that is done at the 20-week "anomaly" scan where they make sure that all the liver, lungs, other organs etc. are there and growing normally.
Congratulations on the baby! I guess he or she must be due around October? I'm due 1st Sept (with our second).
Hope everything goes well!

As said before you won't see much. I would advise that you ask about the down syndroyme scan at 16 weeks. They don't always offer it but its a good one to have.
They measure the water retention at the back of the neck and from that they can tell if there are any problems with the brain growth. Its scary and you might not want to have it. we had them everytime. I don't want to scare you! but just thought it was worth mentioning as pregnancy is a risky game.
20 weeks is when the action begins though! Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!!
