Development charts

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find Developmental Charts for children over 3 years old - I've got no idea what my son should be doing - he is 3yrs 4 months and the only ones I can find go up to 3yrs.

I can't ask my health visitor as they're are absolutely useless - I've had NO support from them at all since he was born and we're still waiting for them to call back about his 2yr check!!!....I've rang them 5 times, only to get told they'd get someone to ring me and they never do!....I know medically etc every thig is fine - height, weight etc but need some idea about social, emotional, educational development etc.

Is he at pre-school? My son's preschool have a system to assess their development - called something like 'stepping stones'? It is a government wide system so I assume would apply to most pre-schools. Perhaps another ABer will know the name of it. But I'm sure that the pre-school would be happy to talk through it with you if they use it.

just buy yourself a mirriam stoppard book! She has written one from toddlers up and they are great!

Andrea, I'm not sure if this will be popular but I don't think you need developement charts you know your son is healthy, growing well and if he is at nursery school the staff there and later at school will give feedback and advise on his educational development. Charts only give an average of what children should be achieving and as a nurse and midwife i have never met an average child. I have met mothers who are worried to destraction because their children have not reached 'milestones' as set down by 'experts'. enjoy your sons childhood encourage him to make friends and to learn. you will know if anything is not right.
