blighted ovum?
4 Answers
Can someone please shed some light. I lost a baby at 16wks pregnant last year after a year of trying and spottong on and off all the way through. However this year I am just pregnant again but started spotting again. I went for a scan and they told me there was just a sac there and that I have to go back 10 days later just incase I was not as far gone as I thought. However I looked on the internet and found this thing called a blighted ovum. which means the egg didnt develop any further and has didintegrated. Could this be more likely as I still have all the pregnancy symptoms but a week later I am still spotting. I have another scan on friday and I am dreading it.

Spotting can be completely normal if you are just in the first four weeks. I'm sure everything should be ok. Its just the wait that seems so long :(....take care, update us when you get the good news.
I don't know what the difference is between a blighted ovum and a partial molar, but my daughter had a partial molar pregnancy last year which had the same symptoms. By the way she doesn't have an eating disorder. She went for a scan at 7 weeks because of spotting and they said there was a heartbeat, she went back a few weeks later as the spotting still continued and had another scan. She still had all the syptoms of pregnancy but there was no baby. I hope this is not the case for you and everything goes well.
thanks it gives me a bit of hope. I hate all the waiting around. I hope i can give you good news on friday when my next scan is. I'm still spotting, 8 days now and really gets on my nerves. I just hope there is something there when i go and this pregnancy lasts. Why are the doctors so unsympathetic??? I am married and again this pregnancy took me exactly a year. they just treat me like another person on the conveyor belt. so irritating, they didnt even tell me about the blighted ovum. I found that out for myself on the internet otherwise i could have been absolutely distraught if they told me friday it has died. I'm coming back as a man in my next life!!!
