I think you should CONSIDER the schools your childrens friends are going to, that is very important. You should also consider the schools' exam grades in recent years, you must make sure your child gets a good education. Yoiu should ALSO check out the school's anti bullying policy, your child must be happy. Last but not least, the after-school activities are important. From Gillian, aged 12, S1,
Visit all the schools that she can go to,WITH her, and let her help with the decision.
I think the friend issue is important but I do know of people that have been let down by best friends who have decided to go elsewhere at the last minute or moved, or moved shortly afterwards,or even fallen out with.
So take care. Bullying is also an issue, but every school will tell you how they have an anti-bullying policy.And be a bit cynical with Open Days- they are there to impress and can paint a very different picture from the reality.
